Third Presentation

This is my interaction for my third Presentation.
When the user get closer to gate/or click.. the icon symbolize gate (lock) scrool color will be more contrast than other blank scrool.

If the user didnt go through the door.. the proximity sensor wont detect it.. and the scrool wont appear.. this picture, the user just go to the door.. and icon of open door will appear.

When get near KOLAM WUDHU'.. the icon of water will appear.. and the interaction scrool before get fade out.

And this one when user get closer to the window..

When the user get close to Tok Imam.. proximity sensor will detect and he will shake user hand.

This will be in animation.

For my 3rd character.. i create a fat muslim guy. This is the printscreen for the 3rd avatar.

And this is my 4th avatar. A women fully bertelekung. She will reciting a surah in
Al-Quran/Zikir

For now i just finish my 1st interaction that is camera navigation..
still not fully complete..

I still have problem of my object modelling that im not sure which one..
Going to finish proxy sensor after this..
and create interface for my 2d sprite texture.

1. Camera navigation as 1st person view.
2. Using keyboard to move forward, back, turn left and turn right to navigate throughout the whole environment. Extra keyboard button to view up and down.

This is modelling board.
After consultation.. i need to delete the red word.. advised from lecturer..
never use red color wording on black background.
I need to change whether the modelling color to other color or change background color,
because with grey background + grey modelling.. its all look the same..
theres no main attraction. And still i need to re-arrange the model to a better proposition.

This is texturing board.

In here.. i need to delete the red word down there too..

The blending option outside all box i need to delete it too...

because it look cheap.. as what lecturer said..

the texturing was made in hurry, so its look quite messy..

actually im not sure im i can finish it in time T_____T

but actually i need to edit a bit because it does look messy..

especially on his leg...

And i already start to modelling my second character..

A boy.. with baju melayu... but only his head finish..

Today presentation most of us do it well... thats what MissMastura says..
i do screw on avatar.. i take a model from my friend and edited it.
But the problem is.. hes FA student and his polycount are not for VRians work.
I need to reduce the polycount.. even its take to much time.
And at last.. i cant finish edit it in time..

So the mosque model less than 10k poly.. but the character model take more than 15k poly.
Need to edit it some more later...

Completing Modelling Phase

At last, i finish my modelling...
Other than masjid, i add kolah area, graveyard, toilet, modified inside mosque and house in the area. Going to put some texture in update later.

Polycount : 6637
UVs : 8870

After that i xport into vtools and set orbit camera. This is what we need to do in our next presentation.

In completing the modelling, lecturer give me choice.. to do or not to do the environment.
Then its up to me whether just to focus on the design on the mosque and try to complete it..
or.. make the environment too. And for the outside environment... i need to spend more time on modelling. Its a tough choice because im a lazy student T________T

Im not sure if i can complete it or not.

After think and think and think... i decide to make the outside environment because without it my mosque look to plain.

Starting with creating the "KOLAH"..
im not sure why... but it really consume a lot of time, and its really tiring.
( Usually im not spending many times in modelling, but more into texturing..)

I have problem in creating inside mosque, wheres bevel function ruin my model. Im not sure what happen but i do know i do mistakes somewhere in setting or in modelling progress. After an hours i almost give up on modifiying it.. but miracles happened... i finish done it! And im not sure how. -______-"

Virtools

At last i success in importing my work into Virtools...
at 1st i xport to obj. file... then i xport into 3dmax. There i have to put the textures back . It quite troublesome where i dunno how to use 3dmax at all. With help from fandi and azman.. i do for my 1st time... but many problem happen such as textures not like it used to be in MAYA..
Last Friday.. MrMalan tell me about xporting into vrml 1st, then into Vtools...
at 1st when i xport it.. a horde of command prompt pop up my window. I tot it was a virus...
Luckily its not. Its really look like when i got BRONTOX twice before.
After that i open in VRML and its dark... after on headlight still nothing in it...
I lost hope... but fawas tell me just try to xport in Virtools...
And it success !! yay !! Once more i need to put the texture back to my model, but its ok, as long
i can start virtools...

This is the final touch in Virtools for my Masjid Kampung Kling...
Even i cant finish and do much, coz short of time.. but i hope the presentation will went well.
My navigatorin Virtools really2 bad.. T___T
Dunno how to fix it... the scale is good, but the camera is to big, i cant even resize it... and it
was to high untill the eyelevel looks like a tall tall tall man... haih...

Second Stage: Texturing in Maya

Yeah, finally it come to texturing time...
this is where my favourite part come. Since gamma i love to texturing in MAYA.
Eventhough im not good at it.. but sometimes i spend more than 5 hours playing with texturing.
starting with normal mapping, untill the real detail texture sheets...
One thing about texturing textures sheet.. it REALLY REALLY REALLY consume a LOTT of time. Futhermore i got the Masjid Kampung Kling for the FYP 1... im quite excited..
but this really tiring me... T_____________T

This for second step after i finish modeling in MAYA. This what i got in texturing in MAYA.

Start Modeling

1st i use the blueprint to get the exact scale of Masjid Kampung Kling model.

I paste in 1 box for front scale and 1 from the top view, and then i start modeling.

Its quite hard to model because its all base on scale.. and what make more problem.. i dont understand much about the architectural plan. I do ask Mr. Malan and he give some measurement.. but actually i still not understand much about the measurement.

Then i just follow the model, and edit... this is what i got... for the 1st step..

Today consultation lecturer approve my output for this semester.
The criteria i must finish in this 3 weeks is:-

- environment (external) - mood (actually im not quite understand this part :P)

i lost my wallet, no allowance for me this week coz family money problem, suddenly got 2 presentation on Thursday and the worst things is i left all my reference, books, measured drawing in the lab !!! Thinking that i left it in car... what to do... the lab lock alreadyy... T_____T

Device and Avatar

Last Monday presentation, i found out i lack information in my device and avatar information.

For my device, i choose wiimote where i dont even know how it function.
And for my avatar, lecturer ask me to find another benchmark, because my benchmark are not suitable..

After presentation lecturer ask why i use wiimote... after arguing with the panel, at last i choose not to use wiimote, but take lecturer advise.. RE-THINK on choosing the best device...
Finally i decided to choose JOYSTICK for my fyp... because it more suitable and more easier for users to control than wiimote controller.

So this is the example of joystick...

Actually for avatar i still not sure what kind of model im gonna do. As Mdm Natalya say, its better for me to do a plain but well made character-blend-environment that suit the environment. Its do SAVE a lot of time rather than modelling avatar in 3d, but i still confuse of my decision, i want to make 3d model that look more like a human avatar. I googling a bit and found what im searching for and for my avatar.. IF i choose to create 3d modelling...this is my benchmark... for low poly model...

Journey to KALAM

Last Friday, me, Fandi and Faizul go on trip to UTM Skudai Johor Bharu. We go after we got last minute conformation from Prof Tajudin of KALAM on Thursday evening saying he will open KALAM lab for us if we want to.

So we packing our things on 27/11 evening(i skip class taekwando) and go to Muar. My sister drove us, and we sleep in my grandmother house dat nite. In Friday morning, 6.30 am we start moving to UTM and at 9.30 we already found KALAM fakulty. There i call Prof Tajjudin, hes not in Fakulti yet, so we go breakfast.. at 11 Prof Tajjudin arrive and he open his lab for us. (actually the lab already open, but we didnt go in coz got no permission)

My 1st impression in dat lab, im quite suprise.. No wonder when i call Prof Tajudin before, he say its up to us, to search for urself. There, the book are not organize.. its all around the bookshelf, A LOTS of it. Prof Tajudin said, they dun have ppl to organize and listing all the book like librarian usually do.

So our journey to find wat we want starts here..
I got lucky because less than half and hour, i found my Masjid Kampung Kling books and sourcebox. After 1 hour, fandi found his Rumah Kutai in Perak house collection book. Unlucky for Faizul, even we search the whole place for his Kellie's Castle(KC) info, but we failed. Theres non blueprint or measured drawing for KC been done yet by student. Later we call KC management, and call others who related in KC, still nothing we get. I felt sorry for Faizul coz his time waste and got nothing for Monday presentation.

We spend a nite in JB, Faizul fren house, and the next morning we go back to KL. Faizul stay at JB incase he got new info there for his KC, so only me and Fandi go back to KL. we stop at Muar and Malacca for a while, and arrive in Putrajaya at 10, where once again i got fluuuuu.. T____T

Thanks to fandi for driving me back to cyber hostel.. i flet out and wake at 5pm day after... not sure how long i sleep thoo..
Now its 9pm and i preparing my presentation for tomorrow morning + blogging.. Hope tomorrow all will be fine.

Info on Data Analysis

In class, MdmNatalya and MrMalan suggest me talking to DrRafi about my project because, Masjid Kampung Kling has been measured by student from UTM Skudai in their architecture project.

After class, I, Fandi and Ella go DrRafi room. Luckily hes there and his door opened. After talk and discuss about 1 hour and half, we (me, Fandi and Ella) decided to go to UTM Skudai to find our data analysis. Based on what DrRafi said, theres measured drawing of our project requirement of Masjid Kampung Kling, Rumah Tradisional Malacca and Rumah Kutai Pasir Salak. We need to get approval from ProfTajudin of KALAM (Kajian Alam Melayu) to get permission using their lab.

So we call UTM Skudai..
But no luck... the line BUSY WHOLE DAY.

My research starts here...

It was built in 1748 and one of the oldest mosques in Malaysia, located in Malacca.The roof, though, shares common aspects with pre-Islamic Hindu architecture found throughout the archipelago, and still visible in Bali nowadays.

The special thing about Masjid Kampung Kling is it has a tower not like normal tower that u'll can find in Malaysia, but the features more likely towers found on Sumatran mosques.This already show the builders of this mosques come from outside Malaysia.

Walkthrough.

Abstract
A project to preserve history of Malaysia oldest mosque.

Target Audience
Students and historians.

Goal
1- The goal of this application is to re-construct one of the oldest mosque in Malaysia ever builds in multimedia form and to preserve the history of the mosque into digital displays for user to experience the environment.
2- The mosque already too old and people nowadays prefer to go to a better mosque.
The design of the mosque was influenced by many races, such as Hindu, Chinese and Malay design. The tower is special because it was build to look like a pagoda.
To preserve the value of it and to show the architecture of combining influence, a virtual application is created.
3- This virtual application would allow the user to experience and explore the environment in 2 different times. User will be able to interact with various objects and learn about history in the same time.

Objectives
1- To expose user to the world of virtual world where realistic visuals and audio effects play an important role.
2- To learn about the history in interesting graphic form and pop-up menu.
3- Creating a reference for others who have the same interest in Malaysian mosque history.
4- To allow user easily access the wonder of re-construction through web based VR application.

Description
1- When users start the program, introductions of Masjid Kling in video will be shown, including some history and location. (users can skip using Esc button)
2- Users will be guided by voiceover
3- There are 2 levels of environment. The 1st level will be the present environment and the 2nd level will be the year after the mosque finished build. This level will be combining into 1 environment so user can see the differences easily between the gaps of years.
4- Users can freely navigate through the mosque and the environment.
5- Users can observe the textures and architectures of our old community that still exist by getting closer to the object or wall.
6- There are some of the objects in the application that users can interact with such as gate, lamp, pipe water and others.

Level 1: Masjid Kampung Kling (year 2008.)

- In this environment, this mosque already has good facility but looks old and the texture fade.

Level 2: Masjid Kampung Kling (before 2000.)

- In this environment, this mosque has less facility.

Interactive Description
1- Users will be able to navigate using keyboard such as the directional key
2- Users will be able to control eye view of the 1st person view using mouse.
3- Users have option to change some part of environment to see the differences in time.
4- The whole environment will have collision so the users won’t have problem like lost in pitch black. (Lost outside environment w/o collision.)
5- There will be pop-up (not all) info about history and object-object in the environment each time users in the area of sensor.
6- Users can interact with objects such as opening and closing the gate, door, click on the switch to turn on the light, and turn on the pipe so water can flow out and many more.
